"Why Bilingual Education is important?"

Bilingual Education is a very special program as well as an important program to me. I am a student of the Bilingual Chinese House at a high school in New York City. Bilingual Education to me means classes that are taught in two languages, my native language, and my target language--English. The benefits of Bilingual Education are varied. Bilingual Education expands my English vocabulary list a lot. It explains concepts in my subject classes in Chinese that I don't understand in English, and it improves my Chinese language skill as well.

Bilingual Education helps me gets rid of many of my problems. When I was in regular classes in 5th grade, everyone in my classes liked to make fun of me. They liked to make fun of me because I had poor English; I didn't know how to explain myself to our teacher. The problem finally was solved when our teacher heard a student teasing at me, she told everyone to respect me, and everyone did, but everyone still kept his or her eye on me all the time. After I joined the Bilingual Education, everyone respected me. The Bilingual Education students are respecting me in the same way as the students of regular classes. I am very successful in the Bilingual Education Program. Almost every teacher knows about me because I am very active in school with the help of my teachers. The Environmental Club of the bilingual Houses has selected me as its club president. Also, I am a member of the school girls track team, the National Honor Society, and other clubs.

Bilingual Education has provided me with many opportunities. I receive two English classes this semester. One is an ESL class, which included people from around the world. Our teacher is a great teacher who teachers us grammar, how to write essays, and more skills. I like the ESL class better than the regular English class because the ESL class gives me an opportunity to learn about other cultures from my classmates.

I think Bilingual Education is very important to me because I could get many benefits from it and it gives me many opportunities such as a job as a tutor in the Bilingual Tutoring Center. Also, I get to know many teachers such as our principal, our assistant principal and many others. If I didn't have Bilingual Education, I think I would not have the opportunity to pass the English Regents (I passed my English Regents in January!) Bilingual Education is the greatest program I have ever had in my life.
