During the early part of this year a bunch of Scouts were on a GAPP Training weekend in Northampton. The next day was Sunday and the Scouts went to another exciting sesssion to learn about Global issues. Russell led the session by asking the participants to ake out their GAPP resource packs. Those who had a resource folder took them out, but one boy only had a deck of cards so he took them out. Russell saw the cards and said 'Boy, put away those cards'. After the session was over the boy was taken before the whole inernational team - including Claire Mackie. David McKee said "Why have you brougt this boy here?"
"For playing cards in a training session"
"What have you got to say for yourself little boy?" asked Orric
"Much Sir" repeated the boy
"I hope so" said David, "Because if you haven't you will be punished more severely than any boy was ever punished."
"Sir I have been away at Gilwell for 8 days and had with me neither my GAPP resource pack or my Anne Whiteford coaching folder, but I hope to satisfy you with the purity of my intention."
and with that he began his tail, you see when I see the
| ace | ace - I think of our world, the only one we have and how we need to look after it. |
| 2 | two - the number of units in a pint of lager |
| 3 | the three groups discussed in the River Blindness session: Children; parents and elders |
| 4 | the number of limbs we have. Too few to lose some due to landmines |
| 5 | the five continents |
| 6 | the six elements of GAPP: Justice, Money, Health, Environment, Sight and Land Mines |

| 8 | The percentage of the world's industry in the developing nations |
| 9 | the number of additionl tonnes of manure needed to have the effect of one tonne of fertiliser |
| 10 | the number of times more likely people are to loose their sight in a developing country than in the UK |
| J | the Jack or the Knave or the Devil reminds me of the layers/manufacturers of Land Mines |
| Q | our Queen, the patron of the Scout Association, and as such is fully behind GAPP |
There are 4 suits for 4 illegal drugs in the UK, heroine, cocaine, LSD and speed.
There are 12 picture cards, the age when the TB vaccination is given in the UK
So you see my deck of cards not only serves me as a GAPP resource pack but as a complete Pink and Fluffy guide.
And my friends that story is true, I know, because I was that boy!!
