Digital Cameras
Scanning

There's been a tend to adopt digital technologies into every aspect of our life. We've got digital audio, video, digital computers, digital mobile phones, the engine of your car is digitally controlled, your email is transmitted digitally, and digital TV is in the horizon... Digital camera is said to be one of the leading products in this trend.

The idea behind the digital camera is quite simple: you get a traditional optical device, and you put some CCD sensors and storage device on it, now you get a digital camera. Easy? No. You'll have to make the parts small enough so the entire device can fit into a reasonably small bag, yet the storage capacity must not be too small; you'll need to reduce its power consumption as much as possible so you don't have to lug around a heavy bag of battery.

I like digital technologies and photographing, but I hate the current combination of the two. The digital cameras I've seen so far seem more like toys than serious photographing equipment. As for professional devices - they are simply too expensive.

The other alternative to go digital is to take photos with traditional camera and film, then scan the film to get digitalized images. There's a good comparison of the two methods on Imaging Resource.
