Bird's life:- Bird species:- For budding birder :-
"The Gap" is another name known internationally as good birding area. This is another mountain road that cuts through the Main Range of Peninsula Malaysia. A meandering road that hugs the side of the mountain, that side by the mountain is wooded with primary forest all the way. A west-east stretch goes uphill that leads to the Pass. This highest point is known as "The Gap". From there a downhill stretch also west-easterly goes 28 kilometers to a junction town Traum, and from there on to Raub.

Birding is done along this main thoroughfare . A few kilometers before The Gap and also a few kilometers after that. Plus a short stretch on the narrow road that leads up to Frasers Hills. It is good as birders stand at the edge of the road looking down into a forested valley. You can peep through the middle storey and also some canopies. The birds are sweeping down the slopes and passing overhead the road, then to eye level.

After the Resthouse, you can see here that road starts to go down hill. At this junction, a left turn-off leads to Frasers Hill -the  distance shown.

"The Gap" Highest point of the trunk road and junction to Frasers Hills

Another signage at this junction, reconfirms that you are indeed in the middle of nowhere.

Road sign that confirms - this is the cross road.

This is the entrance of the highland road to Frasers Hills. There is the "Road Opening" schedule and pedestrians are exempted from adhering to the time. Past this point, another good stretch for birding

A very good birding area from here up -Only for pedestrians

This is the landmark at The Gap - superb accommodation, rest stop as well as place to rest.

Whatever your program is, when you are around here.

Landmark & Signage

You get to see birds along the entire stretch. Even when you are forced to stop.

Yes, we do our birding while waiting for the road to be "Opened"

A landmark and also a glimpse of how the forest looks like when you stop to watch.

This is a picture on the road from the Gap-Frasers. Right now until the alternative is ready, vehicles are not allowed to stop at any point.

One good spot and a clear landmark along the road leading to the Hill Station

On the uphill stretch, a couple of kilometers before the Gap, this signs also signifies that you are already near the top and deep in the heart of birding country.

Another good landmark along the Main Road Kuala Kubu- Gap

The settlement - 2 outlets serving refreshments complimenting and competing with the Resthouse.
