ABOUT KRIPA

The Organization had humble beginnings in a church compound in Bandra in 1981 with three patients in residence and a priest & a recovering Alcoholic as a role model for recovery and sobriety.

Since then this Public Charitable Trust has grown to 28 facilities in 10 locations in India, namely Bombay, Vasai, Goa, Mangalore, Calcutta, Darjeeling, Imphal, Kohima, Shillong & Delhi. It is funded through Government of India grants as well as National and International Donations. It' s guiding philosophy aligns wholly with the spirit of service and dedication enshrined in the work of Mother Teresa who blessed our Calcutta and Vasai centres.

Today, Kripa is in the forefront of training facilitators in Alcohol and Drug Abuse and Rehabilitation and offers a broad spectrum of services to the community including the police, educational institutions and other academic institutions that are involved in Human Services. A major area of work involves interaction with industry in terms of employee assistance programme which is comprehensive enough to encompass all factors that reduce effectiveness of an employee and address them in confidentiality.

Kripa, since 1990 is in the forefront of battling injecting drug use and HIV-AIDS issues in the North East of India. It first reached out to drug addicts in-carcerated in the central jail at Manipur. These addicts were forcibly thrown into prison by their parents and were leading a sub human existence. In Nagaland too the Kripa Counselling Centre has an ongoing prison outreach programme carrying the message of hope and recovery. In Calcutta and in Bombay Kripa closely liases with law enforcement agencies, customs excise and narcotics departments in initiating demand reduction activities.

Kripa is a placement agency for students from various disciplines such as clinical psychology, social psychology, psychiatric social work, criminology & correctional administration etc.

Kripa West - A charitable trust registered in Canada, offers to Kripa Foundation a medium of encountering the latest in social science Research & therapy by enabling visiting faculty from abroad to interact with staff and patients.

Kripa's strength is eastern disciplines which it propagates in all its centres as Basic Therapy to cope with life's stresses including addiction. It is this inner healing which is making Kripa a global presence.
