More Fun Ways To Recycle

Recycling an old couch....................

I'm looking out the window one day and noticed my neighbor was throwing out an old couch.I'm saying to myself that couches sure take up an awfull lot of space in the landfill.I went downstairs to check it out.I was sure there must be something I can do with it.I just can't stand the thought of throwing something away that could be reused.So...I asked my neighbor if he could help me drag it into my garage. This is what I came up with to help recycle and save our lovely planet.Feel free to e-mail me your suggestions.Don't forget to check out my other recycle pages for another recycle project. And check back often to see what else we come up with. Remember ,Please RECYCLE.KEEP OUR PLANET CLEAN..:)

1st thing 1st- Fabric was salvagable.
The back of the sofa was in perfect condition. So I carefully cut the back. Some of the side fabric is also good.So after I cut it off,I brought it to the cleaners and then got started. I was able to make some valences........A table runner.........chair pads............window seat cushions..............arm rest covers............doll furniture..{barbie was thrilled to have something other than pink}...........toilet seat cover............little doilies to put under a lamp.........a lamp shade cover with the trim.........the trim also can be reused , to trim some shades..........decorate some shelves........use it for a trim on a hand made pillow........Don't forget the cushions.........A dog would love a cushion for a bed...........You can reuse the cushion on an outdoor bench or chair.........or make a foot stool out of the cushion,[some extra fabric and the legs and some wood from the frame]............the cushion can be cut down to size to fit as chair pads.........a mattres for barbie...........or a sofa for barbie..............or chair for her..........to be continued......MUST WARN YOU THOUGH THAT THERE IS SHARP NAILS INSIDE ,SO TAKE THE SOFA APART WITH CARE..............REMEMBER----RECYCLE!!!!!!!

The Rest of the Sofa.........................
Well after I removed all the fabric.I took it apart as best and carefully as I could. The wood was somewhat ok. There was a lot of nails,so be carefull, and staples. It really depends on the brand of couch you have, the cheaper the couch the more nails on the wood. Now if your couch has a lot of nails ,then you can't save much of the wood.I was however, able to make a lovely twin headboard out of the arm rest. The fabric was still perfect and pretty tapestry.I just stapled the fabric from where I cut the arm rest from the body and put it all nicely around the edge and no one knew it was an arm rest. The frame was screwed to the wood and it is a beautifull headboard.I turned the other armrest into a footstool.I just sawed the body down lower and used the legs of the couch for the foot stool..........to be continued.........
