Bear's Home Page

Our gentle giant is a 6 year old mixed breed.  We think he is part Labrador, Collie and Shepherd.  Bear was the "runt" of the litter but I loved him at first sight since he had long hair and was extremely soft to pet.  When I brought him home, he was 6 weeks old, had terrible case of fleas, and fairly matted hair.  After a bath and some supper, he settled in and seemed content to spend the rest of his life with us.

This is Bear at 3 months old.

Like most Labradors, he is gets easily distressed and nervous when company is in the house.  He tends to bark and make lots of noise to appear impressive for anyone that comes through the door.  However, as people settle at the kitchen table or in the living room, he becomes content to watch from a safe distance.

Usually, though, he is happy to lie near our chairs and doze most of the day.

This is Bear in his usual position.

Bear has a list of many "favorites".

  • His favorite place to go when no one is looking is in the living room.
  • His favorite outdoor activity is to bark at the squirrels.
  • His favorite person to sit next to at "snack time" (around 8:00 PM) is my husband.
  • His favorite place to be rubbed is on his butt.
  • His favorite food is cheese.
His list of least favorites include:
  • eating Diet Science Light dog food
  • getting a bath
  • having his nails manicured
  • being left in a room all by himself
  • going to the Vets
  • having no one to play with ---especially Jessica since she is away at college.
