" I'm Lending Her To You Today
Picture of a Cute kid swinging on monkey bars as a lead into the poem

As school opens, the bell rings,
and there's a lot of things to do,
My child walks in; please remember:
I'm lending her to you.

I'm lending her to you today so
she can learn things anew;
so she can grow and help others,
the same way as you do.

I know there will be challenges
along life's way,
but please don't forget she's yours
just for today.

Just for today, for only God knows
what may come tomorrow;
In a world of despair;
In a world of sorrow.

But you have a chance
to change this world;
Yes you do; For just look
what's in front of you!

Little eyes, little hands,
sweet and caring smiles,
But remember; the sunshine
is only for awhile.

For they will grow into
an adult someday,
little ones they will
not stay.

And you've had a part
of molding their life
by teaching them
what's good and right.

For 30 hours or more a week
you will be her teacher,
not a mom or a dad;
no, not even a preacher.

You must teach with patience
and always be kind,
for the little one before you
happens to be mine.

And what you say and do
will influence her,
a life filled with hope
a life so pure.

Remember this one thing
while she's at play
I'm lending her to
you today.

Every mother should feel a bond
as her child is held to her chest,
and every mother should always
give of her best.

But it doesn't end there,
as we have to trust others,
a friend, a neighbor,
a teacher, a brother.

And as you are the teacher
in you I must trust,
with her tiny hands
for I know I must.

So I'm sending a message
to you loud and clear;
to teach, and love
my child so dear

Keep her close as you
watch her through out the day,
and always take time
to stop and pray.

For God knows what she needs,
and knows your needs too;
he's a present help,
he will always come through.

I want you to look forward
to her success,
and never settle
for anything less.

So as you have your class
 from now through May,
always remember:
I'm lending her to you today.

"Forgive Me"

Forgive me for the times
when I didn't seem to care,
forgive me for the times
when I wasn't there.

Forgive me for the times
I yelled and lost my head,
forgive me for "I'm sorry"
the words were never said.

Forgive me when the love
I had for you was not shown,
forgive me for making you feel sad
and all alone.

Forgive me for the promises
I made and failed to keep,
forgive me for the unsaid prayers
I fell off and went to sleep.

Forgive me for the times
I said things I didn't mean,
forgive me for the hurt I caused you
to me it was unseen.

Forgive me for those special days
I failed to show and attend,
forgive me for the times
I failed you as a friend.

Forgive me for my anger
I have so much of it,
forgive me when I critcize
I thought it was just wit.

Forgive me for being selfish
and wanting my own way,
forgive me for not cherishing you,
each and everyday.
