THE STORY OF DREAM
THE WONDER POODLE

The story of DREAM started many years ago in the middle 1960's. It was during the Viet Nam War when a young soldier on guard duty in South Viet Nam got a chance to watch a Dog Handler working a US ARMY COMBAT SCOUTDOG on his Obedience Routine. This young Security Guard was greatly impressed by the dog's performance! He thought to himself..."My God!, Rin Tin Tin is for REAL".

The young Soldier was so inspired by this dog's performance, that he decided he wanted to make Training and Working With DOG'S his lifes work. And he has! The Soldier's name was Bill Landesman, and upon returning to the United States he became a Professional Dog Trainer and a World Famous Author of Dog Training Books!
But it is his dog that we want to talk about here. Bill needed a special dog. A super dog if you will. A dog trained to a very high level of off leash obedience. An Attack trained dog, but a dog that looked cute, friendly and loving. A dog that people and especially children would NOT be afraid of even though they knew he was an attack trained dog!
Bill chose a "Standard Poodle" as the breed for his Super Dog. He had a lot of time in Viet Nam to think and dream about what his dog would someday be like. When Bill was ready to make his Dream come true, he purchased a Standard Poodle male puppy from a private breeder in upstate New York. The puppy came from the famous line of Standard Poodles known as Bel-Tor. And this puppy's father or Sire was Noon Day Sun, the Champion Show Dog.
The puppy grew up with Bill's daughter. From her he learned love and kindness and was never teased or played rough with!
The puppy grew up loving all children and everyone! He had a perfect, confident personality. And then came the time for his training.
First came basic on leash training. Dream took to it very well. He had a fierce desire to please Bill, and learned his lessons in record time!
Then off leash training followed. Dream again excelled and enjoyed doing the difficult work.
Dream's training ground was the Streets. He worked in real traffic, super distractions, crowds of people at shopping centers.
When Bill thought he was ready he took the "Dream" puppy to an AKC Obedience Competition Dog Show. At one of these early Match Shows Dream won the title "Highest Scoring Dog In Obedience". Dream had the highest score of any dog at that show, in any class! Bill knew he had a real winning combination here.
Then followed the Guard Training. Dream was a reluctant Attack Dog. He loved people, to fight and bite people was very difficult for him. But finally, with very skilled Agitators, Dream became a good attack dog. And he had the distinction of being one of the few Attack Trained Poodles in the Country, and possibly the World!
Dream was now ready for TV and Radio appearances, and all kinds of demonstrations.

Today DREAM Jr. carries on the work of his predecessor, and is the ICON of Bill's Dog Training School, The Happy Tails Dog Training Academy!

Academy of Happy Tails is a dog training school in New York, that trains dogs and dog owners in their own homes. This problem solving website is provided as a public service to help dog owners solve basic canine problems by themselves.
