My interest in terraria began about two years ago when I liked to have a aquarium. It never cam that
far but the interest to try to make a small habitat remained. Soon after I thought that having a well
landscaped terrarium with some kind of lizard in it would be fun. I started to make plans, searching and
collecting information (from which the last was very hard).
But after a month or so, good friends asked
me if I would like to buy their sons lizards because he would move to Mallorca. He didn't know the exact
spieces, all he could tell that the larger green one was a phelsuma (I knew a Day Gecko). With the
knowledge I had then I knew that it had to be both Phelsuma's: the small one Phelsuma Barbouri and the
larger green one is still a mystery but definitly a Day Gecko.
These tropical forest inhabitants where
housed in a very simple terrarium. A substrate of wood chips, some standing bamboo's and a dried out
Philondendron scandens. Light provided by two simple 60 Watt bulbs (each compartment one) and heating by
two cables. Some humidity was taken care of by misting now and then. I would liked to re-decorate the
terrarium but with the animals in it it was very difficult.
Both animals died after 3/4 year in my
possesion. I don'd knopw why. Maybe I didn't had enough knowledge or maybe it was natural, I didn't know
their age.
I still regret taking over these animals. I could have had a better start with a technicallly good well decorated terrarium.
Now I want to take that start again. With a Wall Gecko, my first favorite when I started about a year ago.
Other one's which I'd like to keep on time are Bearded Dragons. But they are to big for me to keep for now.
