Railroad Junction to Kelantan - Gemas Travelers by rail to the eastern part of the Peninsula must first reach Gemas in the mid south. This is a town almost 2/3 south of the Peninsula. This means that passenger from the north will have to travel south before they can move east! |
| The town where all these transit take place is an obscure little town of Gemas | ![]() |

Just look at the
routing of the road,
this town allows the Federal Route 1 to run through it
with an unique arrangement! The Highway dissecting the town, makes 2 right angle turns within the town area. Picture here is the 2nd turn! |
| This is the view, you will be
confronted! [ if you have entered town from the north]
The straight ahead way is occupied by on coming traffic. South bound vehicles need to keep to the left to circumvent the town. They need traffic enhancement to break the melancholy! |

Now the historical part of town, the railway station, its old building starts the mood!
|
The traffic in town seemed to take the cue from the rail lines. Here is a scene where the rail lines, left going north to Kuala Lumpur. Right going eastwards to Kelantan.

| This is
the center of activities in the region.
In front of the Railroad station is a small market square with stalls for food and fruits. This view shows the exterior of the Station's lobby. Inside, the place is well adorned! |

This
plaque in front of the station gives a vivid account of
the happenings and history of the rail lines! After reading its inscriptions, we were over whelmed. It reaffirms that the trip down to Gemas to see these historical artifacts is worth the trouble. |
| Story on Gemas will not be complete without a picture of the train
passing by.
Coincidentally, this was the 9.30 am coming from Singapore and heading for Gua Musang, arriving there at 10.00 pm. |

The Menangkabau Design Resthouse
The first impression of the building will be that of admiration and praise

Gemas as a
town is not big and so are the suburbs!
On the northern approach road, this sign board is on the left just before turning into town! You just can't miss it! |
| A view of
the main building and reception area! Khoo is sitting on the steps leading to the reception area. |

The living
quarters are in several buildings on the left of the administrative block.
Each of them spaced out and having a small patch of grassland in front of the building! |
| The whole
compound located on top of a piece of high ground. The buildings - so
lavishly spaced and the land, spacious.
It was so impressive that we have to give you a panoramic view of this place once more |

| We have no other words except praises for this place. The architecture, the ambience and the mood, the place brings forth left us almost speechless. Some food is available at certain times from this Rest House |
