Gerik
Grik is almost the largest township before proceeding to the existing East-West Highway.

To give an idea of where or how far away is Grik, just look at the signage along the East-west Highway. This sign assist travelers heading west. |
| The "old" town area is on one side of the trunk road while administrative offices on the other. Beside this trunk road being one of the streets, there were 2 other main streets. This is a scene of the center street |

Elsewhere a couple of new
commercial centers comprising of rows of new shop lots had sprung
up outside the central town district. More so, along the trunk
road north of town.
Development in this town area had ceased especially within the old area This was the only and largest General Store retailer. Although the town was small and could scan almost all the features within a single glance, yet there were so interesting points that was worth noting! |

The tallest and brick building seen here is the General store mentioned above. Without that building, this street looked like a very well preserved place. The shop houses of an old urban area neatly stacked in a row. Completely built with wooden structures reflecting on the trends of yesteryears. |
| New trends had settled in too. In the background some shops constructed of bricks and plaster. Then the parking meters for the town area right in the "heart" of town.. This signified that car population around town warranted that supervision. Another odd point, the parking meter was wrapped after office hours to avoid pilferage and scandals. |

Grik is located in a narrow plain surrounded by low hills on both side. Deep at the foot of the Main Range and among heavily forested area, rainfall is rampant and frequent. While not the wettest part of the country, this monsoon rain had much to tell about the large amount of water draining through the town district |

The new refurbished highway did the township a lot of good providing an excellent alternative to Kelantan State. It was an important stop for travelers and anglers alike. Topping up their cars and stomach before the long 100 kilometers journey to the east- Kelantan or west to Sungei Petani. Not forgetting those crossing over to Thailand! Rest House In Grik Like all remote township, the Rest House remained the most welcome sight to travelers and also a novel idea. |
This Rest house in Grik was no exceptional. Nestled in the recreational park alongside with other governmental administrative offices, the location was ideal and superb. |

|
The buildings in Grik was a modern structure set in a
rectangle shape. A large dinning hall forming one of the
sides. The downstairs portion served as car park, another detached shed was also available for added space. |
| Within the center of the rectangle was this indoor garden. Rooms had external views as shown in the bottom photograph and the corridors ran around this sight. |

On
entering the Rest House reception area, the dinning hall
was on the left just behind this reception counters. Suppose the vantage location allowed inn keepers to kept sharp vigilance for those illegible occupants in this very religious township. |
| Those
rooms facing the frontage would get this view of the
rolling valleys and that of the recreation park in front
of the Rest House. We had stayed in this Rest House for a couple of times now, and it is still the best accommodation available for miles around. |
