Naval Base town - Lumut
Lumut at the estuary is known or made busy by the Naval Base. it is also the departure point for Pangkor.
Today this hinterland has undergone vast changes. Beside the original "Lumut" town center remaining unchanged but heavily beautified, there are 3 sub-regions.
The Naval Base has expanded to occupy the whole estuary cape and Teluk Muroh, a ultra modern township extending from Sitiawan to Lumut and the resort area across the river of Lumut town, Damar Laut. In a years time the bridge link will be opened.

With the upgrading in status and role of the Naval Base, the township inherited a couple of fair size hotels and tiny commercial center . |
Within the constraint set by this narrow strip of land blocked by Bukit Ungku Busu, the old Lumut town of 2 streets making up a square remains intact.
New Lumut do not look like this. As usual we find it superfluous to insert pictures of new township.
| This shoreline along this stretch of the Peninsula has a sandy floor and so beautiful beaches. Lumut is blessed with the long Teluk Batik beach. | ![]() |
Another nostalgic fact of Lumut is the Outward Bound School.Set up in the early 50s was a premier training center for youth and leadership development. The early premises was on a piece of land in Teluk Muroh. This area has since been cordoned off for the Naval yard and the new site was made permernant.

From the school adminstrative building, we could get a commanding view of the Dindings Channel |
| Another angle, we could almost see the profile of the entire Pangkor Island across the Channel. | ![]() |
| The quarters or "watch" for the trainees now perch on the hillslopes of the compound. I can see that it is not an easy task to get "home" each day after a gruelling programme. | ![]() |
There was not much for visitors except to spend time at the beaches. Links to Other sites on Lumut
