Mersing - Landing
Point to Pulau Tioman
Beside
seeking out the resthouse for this town, we were on a look out
for good food.
 |
This
restaurant, co-incidentally the best in town, was
conveniently located at the town center. Of course we did
not miss the opportunity to check it! |
We couldn't
find any subject that arouse our interest, we turned our
attention to the waterfront. Yes, there were a few aspect that
worth noting.
The
Esplanade.
 |
This
pair of lonely Avencennia trees bear testimony that this
stretch of the esplanade was part of a mangrove forest
once in history. |
Someting
unusual about the rocks around this beach
| The unfamiliar lava rock along the shores
should start a good conversational topic. But colourful
fragments of them all littering the whole beach were good
souvenirs. |
 |
 |
Far
away across a narrow channel, large sculptured, soft
rocks stood in defiance of the weathering process. |
How would
the town looked like from this beach?
| Looking
back to town, the doom of the mosque that stood on top of
a low hill. It was blocked by one of its minarets. |
 |
The main
activities in this remote township.
 |
Mersing is a town where tourist stop to
board a boat for the islands in the South China Sea. With
its proximity to Singapore, most vistors drive overland
from the south to cross the state of Johore . For quick
understanding of the place, this table shows the off
shore destinations and their distances away in time. |
| Translated, this is the geographical
location in reference with the mainland and the Mersing
departure point, the islands in their easterly position.
Also note that the approximate distances are indicated in
miles. |
 |
 |
This was a picture of the conventional
fishing boat that was taking anglers out to sea for
overnight trip. The going price at our enquiry was
RM1,200 for 10 persons. |
| The sea going ferry that shuttled passengers
to and fro Mersing with the island of Pulau Tioman, the
main holiday resort. |
 |
All these
activities of boats arriving and leaving took place at this tiny
seafront.
 |
The
wharf was on the southern bank of the river mouth. |
| This
pier was also equipped. A well furished hawkers' center
offering a large assortment of snacks to travellers
catching a bite before or after the long sea journey. |
 |
 |
For a tiny town, Mersing was bustling with
activities at its "Habour" or Jeti as the sign
showed! |
This indeed
was a sleepy town with a very busy waterfront
