An Adminstrative town - Temerloh
In the central Pahang region, more passer-by are acquainted with the town of Mentakab. This was because the trans-peninsula trunk road passed through the heart of this mid-way township. THe lonely road and extended driving time compelled most drivers and passengers to take a short break. Today, a new highway allows traffic to procced straight without having to make a compulsory entry into town.
What has this fact got to do with Temerloh? Temerloh which is the main town and much larger than Mentakab was hardly noticed by traveller! The town is neatly tuck away in a piece of land at a corner of the confluence of the Semantan and main Pahang Rivers. The Highway 2 conveniently scrap pass the fringe of town. Going into the town center would mean a detour, therefore a short link road from this junction leads traveller to the town square. With rapid development, this junction too is now a thriving suburb, with a few hotels, restaurants and hailed as the industrious new town.

The Temerloh township is big with 4 main streets forming a square for the commercial hub. Here the traditional shop lots with tall windows are consistently painted pink! |
From this townsquare, the rest of the town's infrastructures are along a few roads that radiate outwards. Something like-the hotels by the river side, commercial banks on another links to the "old" township and lastly a loop road holding the adminstrative offices and linkages to the trunk road.
| It is interesting to note that there is an "old" town. It was the "new village" where Temerloh started and is still very much alive! | ![]() |
The access, main street or the link road to this "old town" is long street perching on a ridge of a low hill. At the end of this street, the picture above, reminds one of "high noon". Then at the end of it, is a settlement of wooden houses neatly arranged in a square.
There is no night life in Temerloh! If you are yearning for that "karaoke" session, dropping by the local drinking hole or for a show- it is in Mentakab!
