Our family consists of myself, and my three children. My name is Bill. Their names are Drew,Keith and Sandy. Yes, two boys and a girl. We managed to survive some rather difficult situations during the past sixteen years. Their mother passed away in May of 1982. They were twelve, ten and six at the time. Me? I was thirty two. Doing the math, will bring one into the present as I am now 49, and they are twenty-eight, twenty-six, and twenty-three respectively. I suppose one could say that I am "Home Alone Too" as this nest, has been empty for quite a number of years now. Hear the echo? Geeze, now I can hear myself think. Oh, by the way, The little guy? His name is Gage Michael, and he was just born to my daughter Sandy and her fiance Kyle. That's him with my daughter and the baby,born on Janury 6th , 1999. Two days old there and already the apple of grampa's eye. Wink!
As I have already stated, my name is Bill. I have basically spent the past decade and a half raising my children. Yes! Alone! One would have to have been there to appreciate the times. Lets see, most of it was through what has often been termed "the decade of the eighties" 1. Male Bashing (that one is always fun). 2. Yuppiedome! "Greed is Good" was the buzz word of the day! 3. Then lets not forget the INFAMOUS E. R. A. (lest we forget - Equal Rights Amendment..Gee did THAT ever pass? 4. Affirmative Action (Ah yes, the quota system that wasn't a quota system. (isn't that sort of double talk? Oops don't go there! Sarcastic? Who me? Actually I am grinning! 5. And last but certainly not least "Abortion Rights" (isn't that like closing the barn door "AFTER" the cow got out? What ever happened to personal responsibility and nifty little things like restraint? Those were the days. Now? Gee lets see there are such buzzwords as the Poor poor wounded inner child. Talk about giving a spoiled brat an opening from which to draw negative attention - much like many who use all the recovery programs that sprung up during this time too. What better way to spend a lifetime Me focused (self centered) and now it is justified (wince). Isn't selfishness and self-centeredness (read greed) the biggest part of the problems these days. Perhaps we need to really look at all these issues! Because I am certain that under all the rhetoric one will find just that. This being so.....then the stated national concern of anger and physical violence become secondary issues triggered by the these foregoing maladies. Now we have "No Committments; Serial Monognomy, Multiple marriages, Joint Custody, (bouncing children back and forth part time parenting) and the list of dodges goes on.Thing I could never understand is that since statistics indicate (50% of marriages end in divorce, 90% of abortions are for convenience (not the health and welfare of the mom or for the stated reasons why it was insisted that it be allowed in the first place rape or incest) (And Child Abuse Cases are Rampant), where the dickens is the character building and the learning curve that life would throw at us? Seems the stated causes are little more than a cover for those who want simple convenience for the sake of self in their lifes. (Hummm More Double Talk perhaps?)
Yes...We certainly need to cater to the poor little child within, don't we! Oh well, WE, my family and I survived those years relatively intact. And all, the males as well as females are doing well and none need some sort of special block or priviledge. Hummmm....Might just have a lot to do with the way they were brought up......"LETS ALL TRY BEING HUMAN" and the heck with all the dividing lines! And oh by the way, I delivered two of my three children and was allowed the honor of being present when Sandy had her son. So there really are dividing lines ONLY if one draws them.
